Sandstone cliffs betray the hand
Of running rain, carving out
Fantastic figures in relief.
Cloud banks hesitate to meet the sea
As the sun performs a brief encore,
Dropping from behind the clouds
To slide beneath the waves.
In this interval of light,
The cliffs receive a ruddy glow,
Revealing rows of elemental creatures.
A pterodactyl family
Parades in single file,
Anxious to exchange
Headlands for the open sky.
