The Energy of Youth
The energy of youth will never run
Its course—unless the dimming of the sun
Concludes our chapter in the universe
With one last line definitive and terse.
Oh you who balk at hearing children play
In their sudden, rough, and boisterous way,
You would do well to contemplate again
Your days of playing monster-in-the-den.
Your childhood is the better part of you;
A time when it is easy to be true
To your own vision of the world outside,
A time when it is thrilling just to hide.
Nostalgia is an unfulfilling meal
When taken in the vain hope it will heal
A lifetime of accumulated debt;
Revive the child in you and flourish yet.
