The Fence

The fence that grew familiar
Doubled back behind itself

Like teeth that grow in rows,
Forced to overlap inside a jaw

Too small to hold them all.
The sloping sections tilted down,

Bisecting at an angle
In the gully of the ground.

Rubble formed a curtain
Fanning out around the base.

Green shoots grew among the stones,
Footnotes to the fence's place.
