Homecoming

So relieved was I
To be among the strutting
Peacocks of Pompeii,

Questions of collapse
Could not compete
For my attention.

The look and feel of the plaza,
Crisscrossed by countless steps,
Was why I came back.

That, and a door
That shuts, defining
Something mine alone.
