I Once Knew a Man
I once knew a man with a gargantuan ego.
Strolling on the beach, he reached
Out with both hands open wide,
And claimed the ocean as his own.
`Whitecap waves and depths untested,
Know me as your natural ruler.
Currents crossing the equator,
Carry out my royal commands.'
I kicked the sand and pondered my reply.
`You and I will both be gone
And still this ocean will continue,
Heedless of our brief attendance.'
