Islands

Islands are a refuge from the whirl of social intercourse.
     Like a novel of two hundred years ago,
Islands are a haven from the all-too-modern world.

Sometimes crossing over is the culmination of my wishes.
     Draw the bridges up
And sink into a slothful languor!

Islands offer an alternative to mainstream points of view;
     They provide the isolation
Needed for the birth of something new.

When our culture crowds around too freely, cutting off my
     Sensibilities, I perceive my own
Awareness by the counterforces that surround me.
