Morning Shore Drive

for Bunny

We are coastal creatures—
We wake up every morning
And we drive beside the sea,
Watching the fog sift through
The jutting fringe of jagged land
As the sun slants off the water.

Hills arranged in corrugated rows
Drop back into the distance;
We glide down the curling side
Of our slope that hugs the shore.

Once more we arrive
At where the day begins,
Having had a start that brings
A sense of lightness to our hearts.
