On the Eve of Your Departure
It took this long to say
You have a kind of confidence
Unknown to me before or since.
No amount of razzmatazz
Can push along or hurry you.
Too often when a colleague leaves,
An act of concentrated effort is required
To summon up nostalgia and regret.
But not on this occasion—
It's quite easy to imagine
How your presence will be missed.
This is a wish for you to find
A clear path to whatever suits you best,
And to thank you for the pleasure
Of your viewpoint and your time.
