Parallel Lives

All birds deserve a second glance,
From coasting pelicans up high
To darting hummingbirds nearby.

It's not entirely up to chance;
The signs that we are meant to see
Present themselves persistently.

If inwardly we're on the floor,
A dove might be just what we need
To thrive again in word and deed.

Conversely, when our spirits soar,
We take part in the broad delight
Of swallows at their sweeping flight.

What better match for gentle dawn
Than modest sparrows on the lawn?
The birds that populate the skies
Bring hope and beauty to our eyes.
