Perennials

Sprays of pink rose arc across the sky,
Spreading their perfume through the air.
Stepping out the back door,
Greenery greets me everywhere—
The leaves of the lemon tree,
Clover with its tiny flowers,
Succulents in different shapes.
Orange poppies scatter across the yard,
Adding a dash of colour.
Where are the amaryllis flowers,
Blooming on their long, straight stalks?
I forget the time of their coming...
