The Roar of the Lions

Sandy and Topol paced back and forth, separated
By an empty cage between them. Jack, their keeper,
Encouraged them to give us a blast.

They started out with low rumbles and built up
To full-bodied roars that struck us in waves,
Making our chest cavities quake.

It was stereophonic lions roaring back and forth
To each other, making our blood pound faster.
Knowing we were safe didn't matter, we still felt
Chased and hunted down. What a glorious sound!
