Wheel of Fortune
Fortune has me in its power.
Powerless to stop its motion,
Fortune lifts me to the heavens,
Dashes me to depths unspoken.
Fortune may bring sudden riches—
Winning tickets, lucky numbers.
Other prizes last a lifetime;
Loving spouses, lovely children.
Nothing in this life is promised.
Tides will turn and friends may follow,
Lamps once bright will slowly sputter,
All things wrought will join the shadows.
Countless hours spent complaining
Will not change things one iota.
When the final count is taken
Happiness alone will matter.
