The Categories of Delight
The categories of delight
Are difficult to specify;
As if a dreamer of the night
Were asked his dreams to codify.
There is delight in something cool
To drink on sticky summer days
When life revolves around the pool
Beneath the sun's consuming blaze.
Time spent with those we value most
Gives love a chance to fully bloom;
The heart is a delighted host
Who finds inside sufficient room.
A well-conceived expression may
Enchant the ears of those who hear;
Fine melodies that gently play
Invoke a joy surpassing fear.
A walk along the shore can bring
An all-encompassing delight
Where each and every living thing
Is part of something strong and bright.
