The many forms of life at times confound
Us all, requiring that we put aside
     Our limited conceptions, and provide
An open mind to sights which may astound.
Playful penguins and pelicans profound
Are part of a profusion that divides
The world into a rainbow; they preside
As residents with others less-renowned.
For every well-known species, there exists
     A multitude of less-familiar finds.
By fin, by skin, by feathers and by scales,
     Displaying adaptations of all kinds,
They illustrate the life-force that persists.
         Diversity is strong—it never fails.
