This gift of good news is better than any present
     Could ever be.

It comes all year round but we hear it best now,
When the air is cold and clear,
     And people everywhere bustle about.

At home, we gather gifts for a baby named Dakota,
And share our chocolates with each other.
The tibouchina trees are covered up with cloth
To keep the frost at bay.

Today is a reminder of the way things ought to be.
We love our neighbours when we can,
     And remember to be thankful.

     Earlier our elders chose
One day and made it special,
Investing it with all the joy
     That celebration offers.

One heart is like another, but everyone grows stronger
When we witness what one heart could hold
     A long, long time ago.
