A Home for Hope

Where does the earth end and the cellar begin?
The walls grow taller than our tallest tree,
And yet we add another story.

Why won't the roof keep out the rain?
We made our plans and followed them,
But now it seems they were in vain.

One is tempted to begin again,
To start construction in a new land
With a sun that looks down kindly on us
And a river of life-giving water close at hand.

The possibilities expand
     Beyond our comprehension.
Like stargazers we stand, lean back our heads
     And marvel at them.
