Like Osiris

These eyes delight in sights
     That others never see—
Why then should I cease to witness
     Marvels meant for me?

Better to have limbs of oak
     And flint for fingernails,
Than warmth within this human frame
     If warmth does not prevail.

Take the sunlight wrapped around
     The glossy lemon trees—
Take the vibrant hummingbirds
     Darting through the leaves.

Leave me in the night that knows
The unseen journey of the sun
Travelling the underworld alone.

Leave me scattered in my members
         And still one.
